How to Make Fried Green Tomatoes

January 22 is National Southern Food and THAT is reason to celebrate. From porkchops and chicken fried steak to biscuits & gravy and collard greens, there's nothing quite as good as southern cooking!

With all the dishes to choose from, Chef Cody whipped up a mess of Fried Green Tomatoes that would make any food lover -- Southern or not -- cry a little tear of joy.

So grab your ingredients and your favorite fry pan and meet us in the kitchen!

Fried Green Tomato Recipe

4 Large Green Tomatoes
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Milk
1 Cup All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup Cornmeal
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
2 Tsp Kosher Salt
1/4 Tsp Ground Black Pepper
1 Qt Vegetable Oil

Slice tomotoes in slices 1/2 in thick, discarding the ends.

Whisk eggs and milk together in a medium sized bowl. Scoop flour onto a plate.

On a different plate, mix cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.

Dip tomatoes into flour, then into the milk/egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumbs/cornmeal mixture to completely coat them.

In large skillet pour enough vegetable oil so there's at least 1/2 inch in the pan and heat over medium heat.

Place tomatoes in frying pan in small batches (4 or 5 at a time). They should not be touching. When top side of tomatoes becomes browned, flip and fry on the other side.

Remove from grease and drain on paper towels.
